It is believed by many that mirror neurons enable humans to emulate others and thereby empathise with one another. If true, functioning mirror neurons are essential for the socialization of children, and their lack of function would result in the social isolation typical of individuals on the autistic spectrum.This short clip explains the action of these neurons and the testing of their funtionality.
